Stroll, scurry or scamper and help save lives at sea with the RNLI

The RNLI Summer Series fun run events have proven a big hit across the country, so the charity that saves lives at sea have organized extra dates across south and west Wales for those who missed out the first time round.

The RNLI are looking for runners and strollers to take part in a sponsored 10K and 5K fun runs at Pendine Sands and Newport Sands this August. RNLI runners and supporters will be ready at the running line at Newport Sands on 18 August at 6:30pm; and the fundraising event at Pendine Sands, which was originally planned for 31st July, will now take place at 11am on Saturday 27 August.

Claire Timbrell, RNLI Events Manager, urges runners and strollers to show their support for the RNLI volunteer crew and lifeguards in what has been another busy season across the coast:

‘As the weather warms up what better way to get in shape for the summer than to take part in a challenge that helps save lives at sea. People of all ages and abilities are invited to take part in the 5K or 10K RNLI Summer Series, whether you plan on running or strolling – come along and have a go, all abilities are very welcome!’

The RNLI Summer Series in Pendine will also happen alongside the annual Pendine Sands Touch Rugby Tournament so the whole beach is set to have a great atmosphere. Entry fees are £18 for the 10K and £16 for the 5K, including a free Summer Series 2011 T-shirt and medal. All we ask is that you raise as much money as possible for the RNLI.

Events like these also need support from local people.

Claire adds:

‘If you aren’t feeling up for the run, we are also looking for volunteers who may be able to spare a few hours on the day, giving out water, and cheering the runners on. This kind of help is vital for the event to run smoothly and makes it enjoyable for all. If you can spare some time to be on the beach with us during the event, we’d love to meet you and you really will be helping to save lives at sea – come and join in the fun!’
