Students attend art seminar

A group of Art and Design students from Gower College Swansea took part in a recent seminar held by Disability Arts Cymru.

During the day the students, from the Level 3 Extended Diploma and Level 2 Diploma courses at Llwyn y Bryn, were given a unique insight into access for disabled people in the arts.

The UnEqual Spaces seminar, held at the Grand Theatre, included a visual arts workshop led by internationally acclaimed artist Rachel Gadsden.

Rachel’s work has included commissions to create artworks for the Beijing/London Paralympics handover ceremony on behalf of Wheelpower UK at Stoke Mandeville stadium, the Breaking Barriers exhibition and the Rethink Parliament National exhibition.

“The day was incredibly inspiring,” says lecturer Marilyn Jones. “It made us all think about what we normally take for granted in terms of accessibility as an organisation. It also gave the students plenty of ideas and motivation for their own work.”
