Students Make a Stir for Charity

Coleg Gwent Catering studentsColeg Gwent catering students proved that they could give contestants of the Great British Bake Off a run for their money when they raised over two hundred pounds for charity at the beginning of term.

Catering and hospitality students, who train in Coleg Gwent’s working restaurant Morels, joined Macmillan Cancer Support’s annual ‘World’s Biggest Coffee Morning’ event during September, chopping, baking and stirring their way to a grand total of £293.

Catering lecturer Caroline Davies said: “We would like to thank everyone who made a donation for helping to make this event a success. Catering and hospitality students did a fantastic job to support Macmillan, and Coleg Gwent students and staff at Crosskeys Campus certainly enjoyed the fruits of their efforts and donated generously!”

Coleg Gwent staff and students were treated to an array of sandwiches, Welsh cakes, fairy cakes, cream teas and sweet treats in the Crosskeys Campus restaurant as students shared their baking and serving skills for the good cause.

Braces Bread also kindly donated bread and extra cakes for the event.
