Students plant seed of sustainability

Coleg Gwent students did their bit for the environment when they planted nearly three thousand trees in conjunction with Llangybi Estate.

Under the supervision of the estate forester Les Taylor, students from landbased courses at Usk Campus spent the week planting a mix of douglas fir trees, which are used for timber on the estate, and cherry trees that are planted for conservation purposes.

Lecturer Kelvin Vater explains more:  “The idea of the event is to ensure that sustainable timber production is taking place and to help the students obtain a realistic working environment which many would never experience in a forestry situation.”
