Success for Pensarn Barriers Campaign

A lengthy campaign to install barriers at Pensarn beach to prevent unlawful traveller camps has paid off after funding for the work to go ahead was secured.

Travellers have regularly parked in the car park at Pensarn beach causing disruption to the local community and businesses. Campaigners have spent more than 3 years trying to gain approval for height restriction barriers to prevent travellers’ vehicles from accessing the two car parks on the Promenade. Funding for the barriers was finally secured this week after continued pressure from Clwyd West AM Darren Millar. Work on the barriers is due to commence next week and is expected to be completed by the end of March.

Commenting on the news, Darren said:

“Travellers parking in the car park at Pensarn has been an on-going problem for local businesses and residents over many years.

“It’s very disappointing that the Welsh Assembly Government’s failure to cough up the cash meant the barriers weren’t built sooner. This has been a very frustrating drawn-out process.

“This is fantastic news for all those who have campaigned so hard to get the barriers installed. I want to see the Council cracking on and getting the work done as soon as possible.”
