Year 11 students at Coleg Gwent’s City of Newport Campus have been getting involved in a variety of activities as part of the Youth Work in Schools Project (YWIS) which operates at the Campus and in schools across Newport.
Year 11 Hair and Beauty students recently took part in the Virtual Babies Programme, which covers issues such as sexual health, personal relationships, health and well being and the roles and responsibilities of becoming a parent.
Multi Skills and Motor Vehicle Studies students working towards their ASDAN Youth Challenge Awards have been involved in the Arson Rap Project – six sessions on arson, car crime and anti-social behaviour run by South Wales Fire and Rescue Service.
Speaking about the sessions College-based Youth Worker Katie Griffiths said: “Students engaged with the sessions really well, they took a real interest and shared their thoughts and opinions in open discussion.”
Back in December Newport Youth Service organised a trip to Winter Wonderland in Cardiff as a reward for students’ positive participation in the YWIS initiative.
