Successful bike security event in Cefn Mawr

Police recently held a bike security event in Cefn Mawr, where cyclists had their bike marked for free with their post code using a special etching machine and their details recorded.

With the help of Cefn, Rhosymedre, Newbridge Community Centre, funding was available to provide a free bike gift to each person who had their bike marked.

PCSO Emma Owen said; “The two day event was part of a drive to encourage people to secure their property and to prevent bike theft. It proved to be a great success.”

Cyclists were also made aware of “BikeRegister.com” which is a secure, police approved online database. The system has seen a reduction in bike thefts by 44% across the UK and also helps owners recover their cycles. Since the initiative began over 250,000 bikes have been registered.
