Summer Fun in Wrexham Raises Money for Charity Quartet

A summer fair raised smiles for care home residents and a bucket full of cash for a host of charities.

It was fun all the way at the Hillbury Care Home which is part of the Pendine Park care organisation in Wrexham when they held their annual summer fair.

Residents, relatives and staff enjoyed the summer sun, stalls and cakes aplenty.

They raised a total of £300 which will be shared with the four charities championed by the Mayor of Wrexham, Cllr John Pritchard.

The recipients will include Nightingale House Hospice, the Renal Comfort Fund at Wrexham Maelor Hospital, children’s charity Dynamic and the Lauren Brown Fund set in memory of the eight year old who died of cancer in 2010.

Hillbury manager Cindy Clutton said: “It was a wonderful day and it was lovely seeing residents enjoying themselves with relatives, friends and family members. Our activities co-ordinator, Lisa Bowering, did an amazing job and there was plenty going on for all ages.

“We even had James Wallice, 17, who helps out at Highfield House at our Summerhill site in the stocks. Children had great fun throwing wet sponges at him.

“And with cake and craft stalls and a big raffle taking place there was something for everyone. I was delighted to see so many relatives and families here enjoying the day. It’s always nice to see children here, our residents particularly enjoy having youngsters here. ”

“I’m delighted the event raised more than £300 which will be shared between the Mayor’s Charity Fund and our own resident’s fund.”

Enrichment and activities co-ordinator Lisa Bowering, Hillbury was delighted with how the day went.

She said: “It was a lovely day. I was concerned as the morning looked a bit worrying with rain and clouds but thankfully the afternoon was really sunny and warm and everyone had a great time.

“It’s good that staff get involved. One staff member, Debbie Colley and her daughter Kelly set up a craft stall which proved very popular.”

“It’s just nice to see residents enjoying and event, having time with their relatives and sharing memories.”
