Summer with WNO

Welsh National Opera’s (WNO) busy Summer continues as it joins forces with a Hijinx Theatre, National Dance Company of Wales, Urdd, BBC National Orchestra of Wales, Academi and Wales Millennium Centre for a series of exciting collaborations.

First is a re-working of Verdi’s Rigoletto with Hijinx Theatre’s Odyssey Theatre project as part of the third annual Unity Festival on 29th June.  This international festival is a celebration of arts created by all, to be enjoyed by all, which runs from 28th June to 4th July.  This will include an interpretation of the story of the opera Rigoletto: Rigolotto – performed in and around Wales Millennium Centre with help from WNO Soprano Roz Evans, who has previously worked on Welsh National Opera’s Redflight and WNO Singing Club.

At the New Theatre on 7th August, WNO will be providing the music element for National Dance Company Wales’ Summerdance 2010, a show with more than 40 young dancers presented by Arts Active and National Dance Company Wales as the culmination of Future Dance Cardiff a project giving the dancers training and performing opportunities.  WNO soprano Camilla Roberts and baritone Mark Evans will be singing, accompanied by repetiteur Jane Samuel.

For two weeks from 8th August the annual Bang! summer course will take place at Wales Millennium CentreWNO will be joining forces with the Urdd, Academi and BBC National Orchestra of Wales for Bang! which is now in its third year.  The singing and songwriting project will run in both English and Welsh.  Musician and composer Helen Woods and Only Men Aloud’s Aled Williams will join with a writer from Academi and musicians from BBC National Orchestra of Wales.  Both courses will culminate in performances at Wales Millennium Centre.
