Flintshire County Council’s Coastal Rangers have teamed up with Presthaven Sands and Denbighshire Countryside Service to complete 80m of coastal path in the beautiful Gronant Dunes and Talacre Warren SSSI.
This important section of natural coastline straddles the Flintshire and Denbighshire border and needed extra special care in the construction of this key route on the All Wales Coastal Path.
Four Coastal rangers and six volunteers joined Presthaven Coastal Ranger Karen Rippin for the week to construct a path using cockleshells from the Dee estuaries re-born cockling industry.
Karren Rippin said:
“The shells were recommended by the Countryside Council for Wales and provide, in the right location, a natural material for use in coastal situations such as this.”
Senior Ranger, Mike Taylor of Flintshire Countryside Services Coastal Team said:
“This project has been a cross border, multi-agency task with Welsh Assembly money funding the project through Countryside Council for Wales and Denbighshire Countryside Service.
