Swansea business tees up to support £2.5 Million Lifeboat

The Swansea office of investment management specialist Brewin Dolphin is supporting a drive to buy a £2.7m RNLI lifeboat for Mumbles.

The Brewin Dolphin team have donated £1,500 to an RNLI golf tournament on July 29 which is part of the fundraising effort.

Richard Croydon, head of the company’s Swansea office, confirmed the deal when he met lifeboat crew at the Mumbles RNLI boathouse today (Thu, June 30).

He said:

‘We’re very proud to be supporting this magnificent effort which, over the years to come, will improve the safety of everyone enjoying the coastal area of Swansea Bay. It will result in the saving of many lives.

‘A Brewin Dolphin client is very active as a volunteer with the RNLI so to some extent we understand the effort that goes in to making it the great institution it is.

‘As a boat owner myself I know about the good work done day in day out around the country by lifeboat crews and by RNLI lifeguards.

‘As a golfer too, I was delighted to hear about the RNLI charity day at Langland Bay Golf Club. I urge other businesses and organisations around the region to support it in the best way they can.’

Beverley Rosser Smith area fundraising manager for the RNLI said:

‘We’re very grateful for this kind donation, financial support like this determines whether lives are saved or not. There’s still a few places left for teams wishing to take part in the Golf Day and it looks set to be tremendous fun”.’

The RNLI has set a £150,000 fundraising target towards its new £2.7m Tamar class boat for Mumbles. They have a list of items which supporters can buy for the new boat; they range from life jackets to anchors. The Tamar boats are the most advanced vessels operated by the RNLI, providing all-weather rescue capabilities and will replace the current Tyne class rescue boat that currently serves Mumbles.

There are plans to restore Mumbles Pier and build a new lifeboat station there for the new lifeboat. The Mumbles station has been in operation since 1863.
