Swansea charity show is a cut above

Over 100 young Swansea hairdressers have been wielding scissors and combs to raise money for cancer patients.

Hairdressing trainees studying tricks of the trade at Swansea Council’s Employment Training Centre in Fforestfach have had their work modelled at The Liberty Stadium.

The seventh Employment Training Annual Hair Show has raised roughly £1,700 for the Ty Olwen Hospice and the proceeds are still being totted up.

This year’s glamorous event saw models strut their stuff on a revamped catwalk under a brand new lighting system. Local DJ Kevin Johns compered.

The hairdressers competed in nine different categories with an overall winner from Dean Williams hairstylists in Morriston.

And all the trainees taking part have landed apprenticeships thanks to the help of the Employment Training Service.

Paul Targett, of Swansea Council’s Employment Training Service, said: “This event has grown in stature over the years and we attracted an audience of more than 500 people on the night.

“It’s unbelievable what the hairdressers can achieve in such a short space of time and the talent this year was awe-inspiring.”
