Swansea gets ready to celebrate St David’s Week

Swansea is gearing up to celebrate St David’s Day in unrivalled style with a week-long festival in the city.

Music, poetry, sport, culinary and cultural events have all been lined-up to cater for a wide variety of tastes

St David’s Week kicks off on Monday February 22 with The Automatic rocking out the Brangwyn Hall from just £12. Other events at the historic venue include:

  • The chance to see five Welsh bands for £5 on Tuesday February 23.
  • The closing of the festival on March 1 with Morriston Orpheus Choir and X Factor star Rhydian Roberts.

Events are happening across the city for all the family during the festival. They include:

  • Get Welsh in Castle Square with a huge selection of Welsh food and drink as well as live entertainment on stage.
  • Free photos for children in Swansea Market as well as a week of special promotions and tasters;
  • St David’s Week Dining in some of Swansea’s best restaurants.
  • Free events such as story-time sessions, coffee mornings and booklover evenings at community libraries
  • Free arts and crafts sessions at Swansea Museum and Glynn Vivian Art Gallery.
  • Music with Meinir Gwilym at the Glynn Vivian Art Gallery on Thursday February 25.

Swansea sport is also joining in the festival thanks to a Welsh day in the Liberty Stadium on February 27. This event coincides with the Swans game against Peterborough. Swansea Rugby Football Club is also celebrating with a special three-course lunch menu.

The Swansea Bay Rider Land Train is also getting dressed up for free trips along Swansea Prom. People can catch the Dragon Train on Saturday February 27 and visit Plantasia to take part in the Dragon Hunt trail where every entry will be entered into a prize draw to win a Nintendo DS,
