Swansea M.A.D grant boosts creative economy in City

Swansea Music Art Dance have received a significant capital grant from the Swansea Development Fund to purchase audio visual recording equipment and begin running an audio visual resource, for artists, musicians and the community. The resource will be based in the City Centre.

It will allow artists and the local community to use affordable audio visual technology. They can use digital camcorders and sound recording equipment to produce DVD recordings of their work.

We hope the audio visual resource will boost the creative economy in Swansea. The creative industries sector is now comparable in size to that of the financial services sector making up 7.3% of the UK economy and is growing at 5% per year.

Swansea M.A.D is a community interest company formed in 2008 which supports the arts and live music scene in Swansea and its district. We work to further the professionalism of local, musicians bands, performers and artists.

We promote music art and performance as a way of generating income while also creating a way of meeting people building confidence and having fun.

Priority will be given to the young 19- 25 and the local community – we hope that this enterprise will help bridge the digital divide in the city and introduce more people to using high end digital equipment, improving skills and allowing them to engage with the economy in a time where unemployment is at a record high.
