Swinburne: Welsh farmers need support to develop rural economy

Speaking after hosting the Farmers Union of Wales breakfast in the European Parliament in Brussels earlier today, Welsh Conservative MEP Dr Kay Swinburne said:

“I was delighted to support the FUW and to help promote Welsh produce in the European Parliament.

“I want to see a prosperous farming industry in Wales as part of a vibrant rural economy.

“Through our Honest Food campaign Conservatives are committed to encouraging more people to buy Welsh and British food.

“Farmers underpin our rural communities, they grow our valuable food commodities, and they are at the front line of protecting our environment.

“Our rural communities need a thriving farming industry – but Welsh farmers have endured a tough time over recent years coping with issues ranging from animal disease to excessive regulation. They need politicians that work with them, not against them.”
