Switch on to recycling

Pembrokeshire County Council is urging people to recycle their broken and unwanted electrical equipment.

The Council is backing a campaign launched by Recycle Now as part of National Recycle Week – June 21st to 27th.

The campaign follows a recent survey for Recycle Now, which revealed that a staggering 94 per cent of people admit to owning electrical appliances, such as kettles and toasters, that are broken and gathering dust in cupboards and drawers.

The survey also showed that only a third of people recycle electrical appliances that have been replaced, while a further 10 per cent put redundant / unused electrical appliances straight into the bin.

Councillor Ken Rowlands, Cabinet Member for Environmental and Regulatory Services said the Council was committed to reducing the amount of waste going to landfill.

“Hopefully this initiative will help us all manage our electrical waste better,” he said.

“Instead of letting unwanted items such as kettles, toasters mobile phones and radios gather dust or be disposed of in black bag rubbish, I would encourage householders to switch onto recycling.”

As an extra incentive, householders who bring their unwanted electrical items to the Council’s civil amenity and recycling centres during National Recycle Week could also win £100 and other rewards.

All householders bringing in unwanted goods on the dates detailed below will receive a ticket enabling them to possibly win a prize.

  • Tuesday 22nd June –   Manorowen
