Take a pew for advice on health and safety issues

Individuals responsible for places of worship in the Vale of Glamorgan have swapped hymn sheets for information leaflets.

Organised by environmental health staff from the Vale Council, a successful ‘Five Steps to Heaven’ seminar on health and safety and food safety issues attracted more than 50 delegates who each received information packs containing help and advice to aid compliance with current legislation.

Leaflets distributed to delegates explain one of the simplest ‘Five Steps to Risk Assessment:’

  • look for the health and safety hazards;
  • decide who might be harmed;
  • evaluate the risks;
  • record the findings, and
  • review and revise.

Vale Council cabinet member for legal and public protection Cllr Hunter Jarvie said: “Our aim is to help responsible individuals in all spheres of life to protect themselves and people with whom they come into contact, with the minimum amount of fuss.”
