Flintshire Young People’s Drug and Alcohol Team have launched a Christmas initiative to reduce anti-social behaviour over the festive season.
The team recognises that it is not possible to stop young people from using alcohol and other substances and so provides information, advice and support on how to minimise the dangers.
Through outreach sessions, workers challenge young people about their behaviour and target areas which are experiencing problems and which are referred to the them.
The team involve young people in schemes focusing on anti-social behaviour, drug and alcohol use, relationships with the local community and older people’s perception of young people and the links between alcohol and poor behaviour.
The Christmas “Taking the anti out of antisocial behaviour” campaign promotes the importance of keeping safe while drinking. It involves distributing safety packs containing a personal alarm, a bottle of water, a snack bar, a pair of flip flops and information on alcohol units, emergency action and health advice.
Flintshire Young People’s Drug and Alcohol Team will be distributing the packs on 17th,18th and 19th December. The anticipated results will include:
- a reduction in anti social behaviour
- raising awareness of the importance of keeping safe while out drinking
- building on relationships with young people so that they are aware of the services and support offered by Flintshire YPDAT
The project has been funded equally by PACT (Police and Community Trust) and the Flintshire Joint Action Group.
