Tenants urged to show their green fingers

Swansea Council is urging its tenants and leaseholders to enter an annual competition.

Entries are now being invited for the Tenant Gardening Competition that raises the profile of gardens on Council estates across Swansea.

The competition is now in its 11th year and people have until July 16 to submit their entries and show pride in their gardens and estates.

The total prize fund for 2010 is £1,325. The categories include best garden in each district housing office area, best communal garden, best container and balcony display, best garden photo and best newcomer. An overall winner will also be picked from each district winner of the best garden category.

And there’s even something for the children. A tallest sunflower category for those aged 16 and under is available with a separate deadline of July 30.

Competition rules and entry forms are available from all district housing offices, online at www.swansea.gov.uk/housing or by ringing 01792 635045.

Judges will be out and about on the estates in early August with a presentation evening for winners in September.
