The Caravan Club Highlights £114m Boost to Economy of Wales

The Caravan Club Director General presented a symbolic cheque for £114m to the Welsh Assembly Government’s Tourism Minister Alun Ffred Jones on Wednesday at the Senedd – and promised there was much more to come from club members.

Nick Lomas said: “The Caravan Club’s research shows that each year their members bring around £22m into Wales and, when this is added to The club’s direct infrastructural investment of nearly £1m a year, the five-year tally for the economy of Wales bursts comfortably through the £100m mark.

“The fantastic landscapes and plentiful cultural attractions of Wales play a vital part in The Caravan Club’s offer to our UK members,” said Mr. Lomas. “In turn, the club’s members return the favour as a reliable mainstay in the economy of Wales.

“I am delighted the Welsh Assembly Government clearly recognises just how important The Caravan Club and our members are to the incomes of those who work in rural and coastal communities across Wales,” he said.

To mark the occasion, The Caravan Club hosted a champagne reception for over 80 industry representatives and Assembly Members at the Senedd in association with Wales Tourism Alliance, the umbrella organisation for the tourism industry in Wales.

“The caravan sector is a major player in the economy of Wales and far too often overlooked,” said Nick Lomas. “We want to highlight the tremendous contribution Club sites and members make to keeping local communities in Wales ticking over.”

The Caravan Club has twenty major sites spanning the length and breath of Wales and a 300 Certificated Locations, offering over two million ‘bed nights’ per annum in Wales, and approximately 80,000 Club members live in Wales.
