Forestry Commission Wales is encouraging the groups, individuals and businesses that go the extra mile to rid our woodlands of litter to celebrate their achievements by entering the 2010 Tidy Wales Awards.
The Tidy Wales Awards recognise and reward those who are judged to have made a real effort to restore communities to their former glory. The award scheme is managed by Keep Wales Tidy and Forestry Commission Wales is sponsoring the Woodland Improvement category.
Entrants will need to show how the work they have undertaken in their woodland has benefitted the wider community and brought people together. They will need to describe how they have made the woodland a better place and demonstrate how the work has increased the skills and confidence of the participants.
Barbara Anglezarke, Woodlands for People Policy and Programme Manager, Forestry Commission Wales, said, “Woodlands offer great opportunities for community involvement and the work done by volunteers in our woodlands improves quality of life for all of us.
“People shouldn’t be shy about celebrating their achievements and we hope that lots of projects are put forward for the Tidy Wales Woodland Improvement Award.”
The Woodland Improvement Award winner will receive a cash prize of £250 and will then compete with the other category winners to be crowned overall 2010 Tidy Wales winner. The winner will receive the specially-commissioned Tidy Wales Trophy and an additional cheque for £500.

The presentations will be made at the awards ceremony in the Pierhead Building, Cardiff Bay on 27 January 2011.
