Singing sensation The Soldiers took time out of their busy homecoming tour today to show their support for Armed Forces Day 2010 in Cardiff, host of the national event.
Cardiff is hosting the national Armed Forces Day event on June 26.
Ahead of their concert last week at the St David’s Hall, Staff Sergeant Major Gary Chilton, Sergeant Richie Maddocks and Lance Corporal Ryan Idzi officially announced that they will headline the event.
Armed Forces Day 2010 is an opportunity for the nation to show its support for the men and women who make up the Armed Forces community, including service families, cadets, veterans and recruits.
Plans for the day include a parade, fly pass and of course live music including The Soldiers.
Lord Mayor of Cardiff Cllr Brian Griffiths said: “It’s a great privilege for Cardiff to be the host city for this year’s national event and we are already busy making plans to make the day a success.
Having The Soldiers headline the event will be a fantastic way to end a full programme of activities and I would ask everyone to show their support on the day and enjoy a great day out supporting our service personnel.”
Lance Corporal Ryan Idzi, who comes from Caerphilly in South Wales, said:” It’s fantastic that Wales will host this year’s national event for Armed Forces Day, as a local lad it will be great to play to a home crowd. I know the people of Wales will get behind the event and make it a day to remember.”
Pam Healy, Armed Forces Day project director said: “The June 26 event is a fantastic opportunity for people right across the country to show their support for the men and women of our Armed Forces. The Soldiers will be part of what promises to be an action packed day out at the national event in Cardiff.”
