Theft of cash from elderly woman in Maesteg

Police are appealing for information after a man offered to carry out building work for an elderly woman in Maesteg and then stole several hundred pounds from her.

The incident occurred on Monday, November 8th at Bryn Celyn, Maesteg at around 10.30am. The man knocked on the door of the 81-year-old woman offering her discounted building work.

He then drove the woman to the Principality Building Society in Maesteg where she withdrew the money to pay him. He then drove the woman home before leaving with the cash.

The man is described as white, around 30-35 years old, 5ft 10in tall, with short brown hair and slim build.

DS Gareth Morgan of Bridgend CID said :

“This was a brazen act of deception and theft carried out on an elderly woman and we would ask anyone who knows who this man is, or saw the elderly lady with the man in Commercial Street, Maesteg at around 11am, to contact us right away. The lady in question walks with a wheeled zimmer frame and someone may remember seeing the car she got out of on Commercial Street, or the man driving it, in the town at the time in question.”

There is no description of the man’s car.

Police are carrying out a full investigation and checking CCTV images of the area.
