They expressed themselves

Would you like look at libraries through Dylan Thomas’ Eyes? Or see a ukulele made from an old library book?

This is your opportunity to see the Express Yourself exhibition at Haverfordwest Library between 11th and 26th May.

Express Yourself was a national libraries arts competition that encouraged people of all ages to show off their creative talents based on the theme of ‘libraries’.

They could choose any format including creative writing, dancing, drama, music, animation, painting, photography, drawing or sculpture.

The winners were selected from a range of categories including primary and secondary schools, academic institutions, community organisations and individuals.

The final eighteen plus three highly commended were chosen from over 1600 entries and at the awards ceremony in the Senedd in February, Welsh Libraries Champion, actress and writer Ruth Jones said: “The creativity and imagination shown in all categories is amazing; they would certainly inspire me to visit a library! I would urge everyone to go along and take a look at this fantastic exhibition.”

Also on display will be the four Pembrokeshire winners, plus a selection of other local entries.

Visitors to the exhibition have been keen to share their views –

“Very creative exhibition – particularly picture books, enjoyed video footage!”

“An explosion of ideas. The versatile and thought provoking work is intriguing and well exploited.”

The Express Yourself competition is one part of the national marketing campaign for libraries in Wales, which forms a central part of Libraries for Life, the Welsh Assembly Government’s strategy for libraries in Wales. The Assembly Government is investing £10.5 million between 2008 and 2011.
