Think Shed Security

Police in Pembrokeshire are urging people to think about shed security.

Traditionally during the spring time police see an increase in shed break-ins.

Safer Pembrokeshire and neighbourhood policing teams are targeting garden centres and DIY shops over the next month to offer advice to customers about how to protect their sheds.

Chief Inspector Steve Matchett said “Garden sheds are too often easy targets for criminals.

“People seem to forget about the valuable of items they keep in their sheds – this can sometimes amount to £1,000s when you consider bikes, lawn mowers and gardening equipment.

“Thefts from sheds can be prevented if a reasonable level of security is put in place.

“We are encouraging people to install good quality locks to all garden sheds and also to property mark their equipment using UV marker pens, paint or engraving”.

To improve security and to reduce the chance of become a victim of crime, please consider the following:

  • Record all model and serial numbers of the equipment i.e lawn mowers, bicycles, tools, etc on immobilise.com
  • Install security lighting in the garden
  • Have prickly hedges around the perimeter of your garden
  • Ensure fences/gates are kept in good condition
