Top marks for Penarth secondary after inspection report earns AM’s praise

Plaid Cymru AM Chris Franks has praised Stanwell School in Penarth after a glowing report by Estyn inspectors rated it a very good school.

In a letter to head-teacher Malcolm Parker, Chris Franks, who lives in Dinas Powys, said: “It was a great pleasure to read and learn of the achievement of the school. Congratulations to everyone on attaining such a high standard and for all your efforts, hard work and perseverance.”

The report by Estyn described the high proportion of outstanding teaching as a significant strength of the school. “It is a major contributor to the high standards achieved by learners. The quality of working relationships between teachers and pupils is outstanding.

“The percentage of lessons graded one and two is significantly higher than the national average for grades 1 and 2 (89 per cent).”

The head-teacher is praised for his outstanding leadership and for his vision and the clear strategic direction to the school. “Pupils are proud to be members of the school and they enjoy being in school. Nearly all pupils are punctual to lessons.”
