William Graham (Conservative AM for South Wales East) highlight the unique position of community farms – such as Greenmeadow Farm – in promoting an awareness of farming and food.
William outlined to Elin Jones, the Assembly Minister for Rural Arrairs, that Community Farms offer for many children their only opportunity to interact with farm animals and agricultural practices.
He said: “They also offer an appreciation of how much of our food is grown and the importance of farming In managing our countryside. In additional to this Greenmeadow Farm in Cwmbran is also involved in project to generate sustainable energy”.
“The Minister agreed with me about Community Farms offering the opportunities for children to interact with animals and learn about food production; but I was dismayed that no further assistance was offered to promote their activities”.
“This need not be financial assistance”, explained William, “within joined-up Government programmes their value could be highlighted in community, environment and education publications and websites”.
