When Cardiff Blues take on Toulouse at Cardiff City Stadium on Saturday 12th December several of their players will be marking regional appearance milestones.
If Martyn Williams and Tom James play on Saturday they will be making their 100th and 50th appearances for the club respectively.
Ben Blair’s trusty boot has fired the Blues to victory on more than one occasion this season and as a result, any points this Saturday will take the full back’s points total to over 100 for the 2009/10 season.
Leigh Halfpenny is also approaching his own personal points record. With 96 points so far for the Blues, the speedy winger needs a single try or a couple of kicks to hit his centenary for the region.
Blues chief executive Bob Norster;
“It is fantastic to see so many achievements marked in this Heineken Cup clash, but most notably is Martyn Williams’ 100th Blues cap.
“Martyn has been a great servant for the Blues since the region’s inception in 2003 and it is extremely fitting that he looks set to win his centenary cap just before the new year, when his testimonial celebrations will begin.
Martyn Williams on his 100th Blues appearance;
“I don’t think I ever got to 100 with Cardiff RFC I only got to about 70 so it’s nice to achieve this now. It’s a big honour just like it was for the other boys who have got this many.
“It’s been a long time coming, I would to have like to have played more but when you’re involved with internationals it is difficult.
“It’s a great landmark and especially nice because it’s against Toulouse”
On this Saturday’s game;
“I keep saying the bigger the game the better we play. These December matches last year kick started our season, especially with our Heineken Cup performance against Biarritz at home.”
