Trees To Be Removed

The County Council is to remove some sycamore trees along a public footway at New Road in Haverfordwest.

The move follows lengthy talks with local residents some of whom have campaigned to save the trees in the area and others who have highlighted access problems and mobility concerns.

It was originally agreed that the Council would remove two trees growing on the northern side of New Road to ensure unobstructed access along the northern footway throughout the road. However, further concerns over access along the southern footway will also result in the removal of an additional two trees planted in the footway.

“Clearly the sycamore trees have grown too large for this location and, taking account of the local concerns regarding reasonable use of the footway, the Highways Act 1980 does require us to remove them,” said a spokesman.

“We will, however, consider planting replacement trees if suitable locations can be identified.”
