Tres Hombres Delivers Special Cargo for Norwegian Church

Sailing vessel Tres Hombres arrived in Cardiff on Saturday July 10, with a special delivery from Cardiff’s Norwegian partner region, Hordaland County.

Hordaland County have donated Norwegian timber to the church, for the improvement work which will take place shortly. This will include improved disabled access, public toilets and a new external decked area.

Today  Cardiff Council’s Executive Member for Sport, Culture and Leisure, Cllr Nigel Howells ,met the captain and crew of the ship.

Cllr Howells said: “It’s fantastic to see the Tres Hombres moored in Cardiff Bay and to have the timber for the Norwegian Church safely ashore.

”Hordaland’s Deputy Mayor, Tom-Christer Nilsen, was here over the weekend and I had a chance to thank him in person for his County’s generous and ongoing support for the Norwegian Arts Centre.  It’s fantastic that we are going to be able to use Norwegian timber on the project and it is a great reminder of the friendship that links us.”

In a press release, Hordaland County Mayor, Mrs Torill Selsvold Nyborg said: “We are delighted that the Tres Hombres has been able to come to Bergen to collect our timber, and this green shipping service offers a perfect opportunity to link our tradition of building with wood with a traditional means of transport which also respects the environment”.

Part-sponsorship for the sailing ships voyage to Cardiff has been provided by Faithful + Gould, a member of the Atkins Group. Director Niall Sloan said:” Faithful + Gould  is proud to be associated with this voyage and to support the Cardiff Festival. As a major construction consultancy we actively promote our ‘Carbon Critical’ agenda through our staff and our work. The carbon neutral approach to transport illustrated by the Tres Hombres is complementary to our RACE (Raising Awareness Cutting Energy) initiative.”
