An occupational therapist from Cardiff and Vale University Health Board recently took part in his first ever triathlon to raise money for Headway, a charity close to this heart.

Andrew McCluskey is an occupational therapist in neuropsychiatry and sees the important work that Headway does to support those who have brain injuries and their families.

Andrew decided to take on the Slateman Triathlon and raise money for Headway. The Slateman Triathlon is a race that incorporates a swim in breathtaking mountain scenery, a bike course in the heart of the Snowdonia National Park and a run through a slate quarry.

Nearly 1,500 triathletes took part in the Slateman event, which is set in the beautiful mountain village of Llanberis at the foot of Snowdon.

Andrew and his friend Tom Taylor, who also took part in the race, raised almost £1000 between them for this worthwhile cause.

Andrew said; “It was a real challenge to be part of, I did a 1km swim in Llyn Padarn, then a 50km road cycle around Snowdonia, which had amazing views but a lot of hills, and an 11km run up from Llanberis and around the slate quarries

“I finished in 3hours 28 minutes, which isn’t too bad for my first triathlon. I’d like to thank everyone who kindly sponsored us and supported us along the way!”
