Tributes paid to headteacher

Tributes have been paid to Pembrokeshire primary school headteacher Judith Griffiths who has died aged 46.

Mrs Griffiths of Berea near Croesgoch was the head teacher of Ysgol Ger-y-Llan (Letterston) and previously headteacher of Mathry VC School.

She had previously taught at the Meads Infants School in Milford and at Fishguard Infants School.

Last year she worked in County Hall, Haverfordwest, for two terms as an advisory teacher for the revised curriculum and best practice in teaching and learning before being appointed head of Ysgol Ger-y-Llan last September.

Said Pembrokeshire County Council’s Director of Education, Graham Longster: “Judith was a complete professional, popular not only with her pupils but with her colleagues as well and she will be sadly missed.

“Our sympathy goes out to her family in their dreadful loss.”

The Council’s Cabinet Member for Children, Young People, Learning and the Welsh Language, Councillor Huw George, said he too was shocked to hear the news.

He said: “Judith was instrumental in developing the best education opportunities for young people in her area and that will be her legacy.”
