TV fame for mountain bike trails

Forestry Commission Wales’s mountain bike trails were the stars of the show when SKY TV’s mountain bike programme, Ride Guide, was filmed on location at Afan Forest Park, near Neath, and Cwmcarn Forest, near Newport.

Rangers demonstrated Afan Forest Park’s mountain bike trails to the presenters of Ride Guide, Jay Hoots and Darcy Turenne, who went on to ride the Wall Trail, Whites Level and Skyline for the programme.

The presenters then visited Cwmcarn Forest where they were filmed riding the Twrch Trail before finishing on Y Mynydd, an 1.8 km extreme downhill trail.

Ride Guide is broadcast in 60 million homes in 60 countries on the extreme sports channel on SKY TV. It also airs on all Air Canada flights and online via over 30 specialist websites.

Forestry Commission Wales’s Mountain Bike Ranger, Carl Denham, said, “It was a great honour to welcome this long-standing television programme to film on location at Afan and Cwmcarn forests.

“Having our mountain bike trails featured on television across the globe is a great way to showcase the exciting recreation opportunities we offer here in south Wales.”

The footage from Afan Forest Park and Cwmcarn Forest will be broadcast on SKY TV’s extreme sports channel later this year.
