Two Counties’ Marquee Wins Show Honour

CHAIRMAN PICEfforts by Denbighshire and Flintshire County Councils  to promote the hidden tourist gems of both counties were honoured at the annual Denbigh and Flint Agricultural Show last Thursday (August 21).

Both councils have joined forces for the last seven years to host a joint marquee on the showground, with ‘Hidden Gems: Right on Your Doorstep’ being the theme showcased this year.

The exhibition included displays places to visit in both counties, as well as promoting the Clwydian Range and Dee Valley Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. The exhibition included a mini beach, kite and badge making, a mini excavation to promote the region’s archaeological links and a dry stone wall was created to promote the countryside management work going on to protect and enhance our scenic countryside.

A competition was arranged for school pupils to design their own posters promoting locations in their area. The two winners selected were from Ysgol Frongoch, Denbigh and were awarded with family tickets, courtesy of the Denbighshire and Flintshire Agricultural Society.  A hamper draw also took place, with the winner from Connah’s Quay taking away a luxury hamper of locally produced foods, provided by local producers. They also won tickets providing free entry to the Llangollen and Mold Food Festivals.

Councillor Huw Jones, Cabinet Lead Member for Tourism,  said: “We were delighted to have the opportunity to promote the wealth of attractions, locations and activities available in both counties, with a lot of focus on some of those hidden gems that people may not necessarily know exist.   We also took the opportunity to showcase our coastline, with the mini beach and associated seaside activities proving to be a big draw for visitors.

“The countryside was also heavily featured, with the mini excavation and dry stone wall attracting interest from a lot of show visitors”.

Councillor Bernie Attridge, Deputy Leader of Flintshire County Council :  “This Show is an important event in the agricultural calendar and I am pleased that once again both councils successfully  worked together to prepare a fantastic  exhibition which was both fun and informative and enjoyed by many, many people who attended the Show.”
