Two Men Sent to Jail for Swansea Robbery

matthew-st-robberyTwo robbers who were tracked down, arrested and charged within 48 hours of attacking a disabled man in Swansea have been sent to prison.

The victim was parking his car in a garage near Matthew Street flats when he was set upon, assaulted and had his black Volvo stolen in December last year.

Officers quickly identified and arrested the suspects and within two days of the incident they were charged with robbery.

Two of the men – Dean Mark Reilly, aged 30, (pictured left) and James Paul Jones, 32 (right) – have now been sentenced to five-and-a-half-years and six years respectively following a trial at Swansea Crown Court.

Detective Chief Inspector Jane Mackay of Swansea Central Police Station said:

“This was a very nasty attack on a disabled man who was assaulted and robbed as he was parking up his car.

“The speed in which our officers identified the suspects and arrested them meant we were able to secure the necessary evidence to charge them and bring about a successful prosecution which has resulted in both defendants receiving substantial prison sentences.

“Fortunately, incidents such as this are not commonplace in Swansea but when they do occur we do everything we can to catch those responsible and bring them to justice.”
