Two RNLI North Wales lifeboats respond to vessel in difficulties in gale force winds

Two RNLI all-weather lifeboats have launched at 8:30pm this evening after reports that a commercial vessel had ran ashore against a rock on the breakwater at Llanddulas, North Wales. The German vessel has 8 crewmembers on board.

Both Llandudno and Rhyl all-weather lifeboats launched into a full gale and rough seas to assist the vessel at 8:30pm and arrived on scene by 9pm. Due to the challenging weather conditions and the casualty’s proximity to the shore, the volunteer crew on both lifeboats are currently on standby nearby. A search and rescue helicopter from RAF Valley is on its way to assist with the rescue.

UPDATE 4 April, 8am: The crew of the stricken vessel were airlifted off the boat by helicopter. Both RNLI lifeboats were released to return to station at 11.30pm.
