UCAC members will join around 2.5 million public sector workers in a strike against pension cuts on Wednesday 30 November.
The strike will see most schools across Wales closed, and Further Education Colleges and Universities will also feel its effect.
Elaine Edwards, UCAC General Secretary said “UCAC is determined to reach an acceptable settlement to this dispute – the Westminster Government needs to prove that it too is serious about these negotiations. The day of action on 30 November will be irrefutable evidence of the strength of feeling on this matter right across the public sector.”
“On behalf of our members, there’s no way we can accept a deal that forces teachers and lecturers to pay increased contributions, receive less pension and work until they are 68 before getting that pension. That makes absolutely no sense for individual staff towards the end of their careers, no sense for young teachers trying to enter the profession, and absolutely no sense at all from the point of view of learners. We urge the Government to come up with a more reasonable offer as soon as possible.”
UCAC members will join marches and rallies in towns and cities across Wales.
