Unclaimed millions for the over 65’s – could this be you?

Denbighshire County Council has launched an awareness drive to increase the incomes of people aged 65 and over.

Rick Abbas, Denbighshire’s Welfare Rights Manager said: “During the past year the Council’s Welfare Rights team has worked hard to ensure that £2m has been secured in extra state benefits for 630 people aged over 65, with another 243 people waiting for results.

“The year ahead will see new initiatives and joint working with a range of organisations to make sure that this good performance is built on, so look out for new leaflets and posters to advise you on what funds you’re entitled to and how you can claim.”

“About 1 in 3 older people are not claiming Pension Credit worth £1 ¼ m in Denbighshire per year and around £4.5m goes unclaimed in Housing and Council Tax Benefits per year among Denbighshire residents, according to figures by the Department for Work and Pensions.   So clearly there is plenty of work for welfare advice organisations to do in the current economic climate.”
