Unlock secrets of our County Town

Everyone with an interest in the history of Pembrokeshire’s County town  is invited to a Local Studies Fair, which takes place at Haverfordwest Library later this year.

The 2010 event aims to celebrate our heritage – and in particular this year – the 900th anniversary of Haverfordwest.

Organised by Pembrokeshire County Council’s Cultural Services division, the Fair will take place on Saturday September 11th between 10am and 4pm.

Organisers hope to involve as many Haverfordwest groups in the event as possible; with schools, churches, societies and historians encouraged to take part.

There will be a variety of different ways for groups to be involved, from submitting a display or exhibition, running an information stand or giving a talk on an aspect of the history of the town.

Open to the public, the Local Studies Fair is held every two years and is an excellent opportunity for organisations from across the county, to work together to celebrate and promote local and family history projects and initiatives.

The last event, in 2008, opened by Debra Griffiths from the television programme the Coalhouse, attracted hundreds of people eager to find out about the activities of local history societies, make deposits to the Women’s Archives of Wales and to receive training from BBC Radio Wales on family history research methods.

Any Haverfordwest history societies or heritage groups interested in taking part are asked to contact librarian George Edwards at  [email protected] or phone (01437) 776126 by January 29th.
