Up and Over

A commemorative ale brewed to celebrate a fundraising effort that will see 15 former Wales rugby captains climbing Kilimanjaro to raise money for lung cancer research, hits pubs this week.

Up and Over has been specially created for the Brains SA Captains Climb, which takes place in September 2010. The event is the brainchild of WRU photographer Huw Evans, whose wife Sue was diagnosed with lung cancer last year. It is hoped the climb will raise £1m for the Stepping Stones appeal at Velindre Cancer Centre.

The ‘fruity, amber coloured’ beer is available in pubs throughout Wales for a limited time only.

Sue Evans, the inspiration for the climb said: “Selling a beer is a great idea as everyone can join in because everyone can go into a pub and buy a pint knowing that some of that money will go to this appeal.

“It is fantastic of Brains to have come on board and created a partnership with the ex-Wales captains. Hopefully this will spread the word and get people interested in lung cancer research and the fact that it can happen to anyone.”

Up and Over is also available in a 500ml bottle and is being sold exclusively in all Welsh Tesco Extras and Superstores. 15p from each 500ml bottle sold will be donated to the challenge.

UP AND OVER TASTING NOTES

The name ‘Up & Over’ was the inspiration of Stephen Katchi who won a MediaWales newspaper competition to name the beer.

‘Up & Over’ is a fruity, light amber coloured beer. Fuggles, Goldings, Styrian Goldings and Cascade hops coupled with the unique Brains yeast and balanced malt flavours creates a deliciously refreshing pint guaranteed to be a high point in our ale range.
