Upgrade sees Penyrheol pool closed for week

Maintenance works mean Gorseinon’s Penyrheol swimming pool is now closed for just under a week.

The pool is being closed to the public from Tuesday September 1 to Sunday September 6 to allow the installation of a new fire alarm system to take place.

Swansea Council is behind the investment.

Signs have gone up at the pool to let members of the public know and contact has been made with groups that use the facilities there.

Other public swimming pools are available at the Active Swansea Leisure Centres of Penlan, Morriston and Cefn Hengoed.

All facilities at Penyrheol Leisure Centre other than the pool will remain open during the works.

Cllr Graham Thomas, Swansea Council’s Cabinet Member for Culture, Recreation and Tourism, said: “These are essential works and disruption will be kept to a minimum.

“They’ve been arranged for a time when the school holidays have finished and many primary schools will yet to have finalised their swimming schedules for the forthcoming term.

“We thank users of the Penyrheol pool in advance for their understanding.”

The pool will be back open as normal on Monday September 7.
