Registration Office staff are warning residents about websites that are charging over-the-odds prices for copies of birth, death and marriage certificates.
They are urging anyone who wishes to have a copy of any of the above documentation to make contact with them, where a standard fee of £9 applies.
Their appeal comes after it was brought to the authority’s attentions that a number of websites and online services are offering people copies of the certificates for up to £60 a copy.
Cllr Mike Forey, Cabinet Member with responsibility for Registration Services, said: “We are proud of the excellent service our Registration staff offer residents and urge those who need or want a copy of a birth, death or marriage certificate to make contact direct.
“We charge £9 a copy, or a priority service can be used for an additional fee. We do not want to see people being charged exorbitant amounts to secure certificate copies.”
