Vale of Glamorgan Council embraces Twitter

The Vale of Glamorgan Council has officially embraced social networking site Twitter – and has already hit the 100 followers mark!

The council has made the decision to join the popular site as a useful means of getting real-time information to its residents.

Updates include latest news stories, details of events, announcements and links to content that it feels residents would have an interest in.

Most recently the Twitter feed has been used to promote the upcoming Vale on the Road events across the Vale as well as linking to fans’ YouTube videos taken at the successful Waterfront Festival last weekend.

Chief executive John Maitland Evans said: “The council is committed to communicating regularly with its residents and Twitter provides us with a free, easy way to do this. I hope that our followers feel they benefit from the information we put up and in turn choose to get in touch with us with what’s happening in their area too.”

It’s hoped that in the future the council will be able to use Twitter to advise residents of emergencies such as flooding or school closures in addition to its current news services.

If you have a Twitter account then you can follow the council by searching for ‘Vale Council’ or by visiting their page at http://twitter.com/vogcouncil

For those who haven’t used the site before, Twitter provides a free news feed service where registered users can get quick updates and links to information online by ‘following’ other users. To find out more, or to join the service, visit www.twitter.com
