A plan detailing projects to help regenerate Rhyl is hot off the press – and people are invited to have their say.
Work has already been carried out in Rhyl to improve its image and the quality of life for residents and visitors through various programmes, including the North Wales Coast Strategic Regeneration Area, the Rhyl Going Forward programme and the Rhyl City Strategy.
Now a detailed plan has been drawn up to pull all of this activity together and to provide a framework for Rhyl which will guide all future regeneration activity and decisions about investment for the next three to five years.
The document highlights four key areas for action:
West Rhyl Regeneration Area – where the plan is to demolish some of the buildings and replace them with high quality, contemporary new developments, whilst preserving some of the historic assets by creatively adapting them to accommodate new uses;
Tourism & the Coastal Strip – where we will be building on Rhyl’s reputation as a family resort by providing appropriate facilities to sustain and grow this market;
Retail & the Town Centre – where the strategy is to re-establish Rhyl as a prime retail location providing “high street” stores, good quality independent shops , and a vibrant market; and
Housing & Neighbourhoods – which looks at how we can improve the quality of homes in Rhyl, along with the open spaces and facilities which surround them.
The projects will involve a wide range of partners, including the Welsh Government, Rhyl Town Council, West Rhyl First, Pennaf Housing,, BRAND, Coleg Llandrillo Cymru, Rhyl Business Group, and the Denbighshire Voluntary Services Council.
Councillor David Thomas, Cabinet Lead Member for Regeneration said: “Key to this work is recreating Rhyl as a place where people choose to live and stay and to rediscover Rhyl as a place to visit.
“Regeneration continues to be a key priority for the Council and this plan details projects which aim to leave a lasting legacy of a vibrant economy and better skilled and educated workforce; creating a community that is safe and healthy; implementing a masterplan to develop the coastal strip; strengthening the retail offer in the town centre and improving the neighbourhood through quality housing and enhancing its surroundings”.
The Council is inviting people to view the document and give their views and comments.
