Landowners, developers and residents can have their say on how Swansea shapes up in the future.

Swansea Council is developing the Local Development Plan (LDP) – a key document that will help shape Swansea from 2015 onwards.

Since August last year, the public has had the opportunity to submit their ideas on what land could be used for. This process has now ended and comments can now be given in relation to those sites.

The Council has stressed that sites included in the candidate site list will not necessarily make it into the LDP, although everything that has been suggested will be looked at in more detail before the final document is approved.

Everything from retail space to parkland and social housing will be featured in the LDP, which will replace the existing Unitary Development Plan (UDP) adopted by the Council in 2008.

Phil Holmes, Head of Economic Regeneration and Planning in Swansea Council, said: “The Local Development Plan is a really important document which will provide us with guidance on how we develop Swansea in the future.

“We want as many people as possible to have the opportunity to give their views on potential development sites.

“Nominated sites won’t necessarily be included in the adopted LDP but we want people to have a role in the production of the document.

“This process is simply about giving the people of Swansea the chance to have their say in how their city is developed in the future.”

Comments must be issued by July 31 this year.
