Volunteering Drop in for Denbighshire Carers

denbighshireDenbighshire County Council and North East Wales Carers Information Service Denbighshire (NEWCIS) have teamed up to arrange a volunteering awareness drop in for carers and former carers.

The event will be held between 10am and 1pm at Wellington Road Community Centre, Rhyl on Thursday 3rd April and is aimed at carers and former carers whose lives have in some way been affected by caring for a spouse, partner, relative or friend.

The purpose of the drop in is to promote volunteering and the benefits that volunteering can bring to carers including gaining new skills, improving employment opportunities and enhancing health and wellbeing.

A number of organisations will be available including Denbighshire County Council, NEWCIS, Red Cross, Child Line, Denbighshire Voluntary Services Council, and Uniformed groups to name just a few.

Cllr Hugh Irving, Denbighshire’s Cabinet Lead Member for Customers and Communities said: “I am delighted to support this event as I believe that volunteering not only helps organisations enhance their services but provides opportunities to meet new acquaintances, gain new experiences and skills which in many cases can be used, if required, to support future job applications”.

Claire Sullivan Carer Services Manager said:  “NEWCIS provides volunteering roles for many of our carers and past carers who may have become isolated and lost social networks due to their caring roles. The opportunity to volunteer with others who have had similar experiences can make a huge difference to how a person is feeling and can open up new friendships and enjoyable opportunities”.

All carers and former carers are welcome to come down and find out more about how volunteering can make a huge difference to their lives.
