Wales’ Manager Gary Speed Helps Kick Start St David’s Day Celebrations

Wales Football Manager Gary Speed will this year be showing his support for St David’s Day by taking part in the St David’s Day Parade.

Former Wales captain Gary will join the parade along with the entire staff of the Football Association of Wales.

Everyone is welcome to join the parade or line the route and cheer on those taking part.  People are also being encouraged to come along dressed up in traditional Welsh costume, Welsh themed fancy dress, or maybe in the national colours of Wales to celebrate.

The parade will leave City Hall at 12.30pm and will proceed down Kingsway into Castle Street turning into St Mary Street then into Mill Lane and The Hayes before finishing in front of St David’s Hall at 1pm, where there will be an hour of traditional music and entertainment until 2pm. There will also be a Welsh Craft Market.

Deputy Leader for Cardiff Council, Cllr Neil McEvoy, said: “It’s a huge boost that Gary will be joining the parade, as a proud Welshman and manager of Wales he will prove very popular with the paraders and those cheering on the parade.

“I would like to thank him for giving his support to the parade; his profile will be a great asset in promoting the St David’s Day parade across Wales and beyond. My aim is to make St David’s Day celebrations bigger and better in Cardiff and to do this we need the support of high profile Welsh faces.”

Gary Speed, said: “I am delighted to be flying the flag for the FAW and Wales on St David’s Day. It is vital that we never loose our national identity and I think this parade is a really great way of showing our pride in our country”.
