Ceredigion County Council has warned road users to expect dangerous road conditions with extremely icy road surfaces likely to be encountered through tonight Wednesday, 06 January 2010, to tomorrow morning.
A spokesperson for Ceredigion County Council explained: “At 3:00pm this afternoon, 6 January 2010, our stocks of salt had declined to 700 tonnes. We have been given consent to collect 100 tonnes from the Welsh Assembly Government at Pont Abraham tomorrow morning and we a supply is supposed to reach us before the end of the day today from Salt Union in Cheshire. Before each winter, stockpiles of salt totalling 5,750 tonnes are accumulated and stored at the two Ceredigion Depots located near Llandysul and at Aberystwyth. The County Council is doing absolutely everything within its power to seek adequate replenishment of salt stocks.
“The Ceredigion primary road network continues to be passable with care but many secondary roads are treacherous, at best. The County Council has advised its own staff of the position and urges other employers to do likewise. Drivers need to take extreme care and consider whether their journey is really necessary under prevailing conditions.”
