Waste collections – the next roll-out begins

Flintshire County Council’s recycling team is out and about across the county to engage with residents as the next roll-out of the new waste collection service begins.

Households involved in the next phase will receive details of their new collection arrangements along with their new wheeled bins. A booklet containing all the information needed about the changes to the service will be posted through the door on the day the bin is delivered.

The first collection from the new wheeled bins will be week beginning 27 June.

Under the new arrangements, households will receive the following services:

  • A weekly recycling collection
  • A weekly collection of food waste
  • A fortnightly collection of non–recyclable waste (refuse) alternating with…
  • A fortnightly green waste collection service (brown bin)

Collections will take place on the same day of the week which will be easier for residents.

To ensure collection residents are asked to make sure that the wheeled bins are presented at the kerbside with the bin lid closed by 7am on their collection day.

The recycling team have visited some of the schools in the roll out areas with the mascots to engage with parents and children

Councillor Nancy Matthews, Executive Member for Waste, said:

“We know how much the children love meeting our recycling mascots, and visiting schools is a great way to get the message out there about our new refuse collections service.

“Children are always keen to recycle more and waste less, because they learn about the importance of recycling in school, and that means they also encourage all the adults in their family to recycle!

“It’s so important that we recycle as much as we can. The county has to meet strict recycling targets set by the Welsh Assembly Government, or we face tough financial penalties.

“If you do have any questions about the new service, the team will be out and about at various locations around the county, and you can also contact the Council’s waste collection helpline on 01352 703350.”
