A Tyre Amnesty event is to be undertaken jointly between Neath Port Talbot and Bridgend County Borough Councils from 24th to 28th February from 9am to 5pm each day.
The Tyre Amnesty, which has been made possible by funding through the Welsh Assembly Government’s Tidy Towns Grant Scheme, a Local Environmental Quality Initiative, is the third joint cross-boundary initiative of its kind in Wales. The previous two were also NPTCBC instigated initiatives.
Tyres will be accepted on or off the rim at the Household Waste & Recycling Centre at Briton Ferry and all the recovered tyres will be sent for recycling. The aim of the event is to focus joint efforts in assisting residents to dispose of their unwanted tyres.
The Leader of Neath Port Talbot Council, Cllr Ali Thomas, said: “Previous Tyre Amnesties have gone some considerable way in eliminating the potential for future occurrences of fly tipped tyres, and this is the latest, of what it is hoped to be a regular series of events”.
He added: “The Tidy Towns Grant Scheme has provided the Authority with the opportunity to provide a much needed community resource which otherwise would not have been possible. Fly-tipped tyres are a huge problem across Wales and this is an excellent initiative by both Neath Port Talbot and Bridgend Councils to combat this.”
Keep Wales Tidy Officer, Alan Powis along with EWC Waste & Recycling Solutions staff at the Household Waste & Recycling Centre at Briton Ferry will be on hand to assist with the tyres.
